Look gang, I don’t know how many of you have paid close attention to historic flags in various textbooks and articles, but I have always been fascinated. The Serapis flag, named after the ship that saved John Paul Jones after the sinking of the Bonhomme Richard, is particularly intriguing.
John Paul Jones needed a flag to harbor in Amsterdam since he didn’t know what the U.S. flag looked like. He wrote to Ben Franklin in Paris, and based on Franklin’s description, the locals in Amsterdam, who were friendly to American interests, banded together to create a striking flag. This flag features 13 eight-pointed stars, with five red stripes, four white stripes, and four blue stripes. Striking, isn’t it?
This morning, as I was thinking about the flag, the idea of Serapis Slacks dawned on me. Within an hour, I created the template you see below.
I aim to make Serapis Slacks available through Serapis.Club. Stay tuned!
